Tanzanite has a shifting blue-violet glow that feels almost otherworldly, flickering between deep sapphire, soft violet, and flashes of wine-dark burgundy as it moves in the light. Found in only one small place on Earth, near Mount Kilimanjaro, it carries a rare, fleeting beauty, often called the Generation Stone for how limited its time here may be.

Tanzanite is geologically extremely rare and is often said to be about 1,000 times rarer than diamond. Unlike diamonds, which are found in many parts of the world, tanzanite comes from just one tiny area on Earth: a narrow strip of land in the Mererani Hills of northern Tanzania near Mount Kilimanjaro.

Its vivid blue-violet colour formed through an exceptionally rare mix of heat, pressure, and vanadium during the tectonic events that shaped the Great Rift Valley. Because this single deposit is so small, tanzanite is considered a generational gemstone, with estimates that the supply may be depleted within the next 20 to 30 years, and mining already requires deep underground shafts that can reach more than 300 metres.
